Right before we end this year, AMD triumphs on revealing its latest Radeon HD 7970 now confirmed as the world’s fastest video card for single GPU category ousting its old rival — NVIDIA GTX 580, from its throne.
So what makes the new GPU monstrous? Well, its specifications are simply unrivaled at the moment being the only video card infused with 28nm production technology, boosting its performance up to 150% built on a new graphics core architecture for next-generation gaming and computing potentials.
For its innards, the Radeon HD 7970 packs a 925MHz engine clock that can easily crank to 1.1GHz after overclocking it, along with 384-bit memory supporting 3GB GDDR5 RAM –- something which is rare for a single-GPU graphics card. Likewise, it supports all those AMD delights green fans have relinquished throughout the years like Eyefinity technology enabling users to connect up to six-displays totaling up to 16k x 16k resolution, adheres PCI Express 3.0 standards and HD3D technology for all your 3D entertainment needs. Remarkably, the Sunnyvale company manage to make the card more power efficient, quieter and cooler reducing its load under 300W on peak usage while 3W during idle mode – all these improvement thanks to AMD’s PowerTune and ZeroCore Power technology.

The last time we checked, AMD still holds the title of creating the most powerful dual-GPU video card with HD 6990 unveiled earlier this year – making this new announcement by the company more interesting for its patrons.
For those who want to juice their rig for new triple-A titles next year, you can get the AMD Radeon HD 7970 for a price of $549 hitting its release date on January 9.
