Although Android has some fragmentation issues once every upgrade is released, they have the widest range of users and features than anybody else. With Gingerbread 2.3 release imminent, people are already looking for at the release of Android Honeycomb, which will be numbered as version 2.4.

According to a report made on “Android and Me,” a developer working on a third party app is the source of this news. The new version that is Tablet friendly is expected to be released on February just in time for the Mobile World Congress. There is little news about its features, but all Google has to say is that version 2.3 is optimized for the Mobile smartphone and Tablets of tomorrow.
With the rate that upgrade releases for the Android is going, expect the future upgrades of “Ice Cream” and “Jellybean” to be out by May of 2011.
But the question is, what will be numbered as Android 3.0. Looks like Google is saving the odd number for a really special release. With all the naming and numbering conventions out of the window, seems that users will be seeing 2.4 up to 2.9 even before 3.0 hits the papers and media. Stay tuned for future developments.
