Lately, a number of reports revealed that the very popular Android Mobile Operating System will be coming out with a new version which will be called Honeycomb. This OS follows Google’s Cupcake, Éclair, Froyo, and Gingerbread. The latest Android OS is more of an incremental upgrade so it is expected to be more of an Android 3.1 or Android 3.2 version.
If you are excited for the Gingerbread , which is the codename for the Android 3.0, a powerful and high-end OS intended for tablets and “superphones”, well, Android is planning to come up with something better and equally amazing OS that is scheduled to be launched in 2011.
Some rumors revealed that the said Honeycomb OS will be specifically design for tablet PC’s which has been a growing segment in the mobile device market. As of present, Apple’s iPad has been dominating the tablet market and more people are looking forward into having more Android tablets in the market.
With the Apple and Android competition, it is expected that the tablet market will continue to grow. It is highly anticipated that lots of tablets with an improved quality and more affordable price will be entering the market. In fact, it is even projected to outshine the netbooks within a couple of years.
A lot of hardware manufacturers like Toshiba, Acer, Motorola and Samsung have been waiting for the Gingerbread OS. These manufacturers are also expected to be equally or even more interested with the Honeycomb which seems to be an upgraded version of the Gingerbread.
Google remains silent about this upcoming OS which will be apparently called the Honeycomb. As of present they haven’t give any information about its official specs, version numbers as well as its exact release date.
As of now, we cannot expect to see the Honeycomb anytime soon. However, it is quite interesting to see some Google Android Honeycomb machines launched in the market against the Google Chrome OS tablets to see how the tablet market will be able to sustain these two OS’s from the same manufacturer.
At this moment, Google did not give any confirmation yet regarding this upcoming OS. So for now, let’s just wait and see for ourselves what this OS has to offer in the near future.
