Android: The Most Popular Mobile Phone OS on Earth!

Android is a mobile operating system that was initially developed by Android Inc. and was later on acquired by Google back in 2005. From then on, Google becomes so persistent in pushing this OS in the mobile market industry and it seems that all these efforts exerted by Google has finally paid off as it was hailed as the most popular mobile platform nowadays.

According to a report made by Canalys, Google’s Android OS has already surpassed the Symbian OS on being the top smartphone mobile platform in the Q4 of 2010. Based on these reports, the shipments of Android-based smartphones have reached around 32.9 million while its closest competitor Symbian platform is slightly behind it at 31.0 million. However, in spite of these figures, Nokia has still managed to retain its position as the world’s leading global smartphone vendor, garnering a market share of around 28%.

We cannot deny the fact that the year 2010 has been a great year for the smartphone industry. This is evident by the simultaneous releases made by various mobile phone manufacturers all over the world. The past year is also a great one for Google’s Android as it has obviously become the OS choice of many mobile phone manufacturers out there. That is why it is not surprising that Google’s Android platform has made such achievement.

The Android platform has become the platform of choice by many manufacturers like LG, Samsung, Acer and HTC and almost all of their smartphone products have made it well in the market as it provides its users high quality smartphones based on this platform. The Android OS has changed the way most mobile users use their devices by providing a more flexible and enjoyable experience. In other words, this platform was able to revolutionize the world of smartphones.

Google has really gone a long way in facilitating the needs of many mobile users and manufacturers out there. And because of its ability to support a great number of gadgets, throw in features and regular updates, most probably, Google’s Android OS will stay on top for a while.
