Wireless technology is continually gaining fame not only to consumers but I.T. companies as well. However, majority of users complain that Wi-Fi’s security still has vulnerabilities.
Wi-fi operates at higher frequencies (around 2.4GHZ), your mobile phone operates at lower range (1.5GHZ). This means that signals from your wireless devices (i.e. wireless routers, webcams, security camera) are transmitted/broadcasted in an open space – it can pass through your wall/windows.
This also means an “opportunity” to hackers and other intruders. Any wireless receivers (devices that can receive and use wi-fi transmitted signals) can “illegaly” intercept transmitted signals from any of your wireless gadgets. Therefore, there are cases wherein some people with wireless adapters can tap and use your wireless router (and “share” with your internet connection). Wireless security camera can be used by wrong doers to their advantage if not properly regulated.
The University of Tokyo think they have a solution for this Wi-Fi “breach” of security, the Anti-Wi-Fi paint. The paint contains aluminium-iron oxide particles that resonates at the same frequency as wi-fi – or other radio waves. It simply means that signals from your wi-fi gadgets cannot be used/transmitted beyond an anti-wi-fi painted wall.
The Japanese claim that it can block high frequency range of signals (up to 100GHz). Paints that can block higher frequency range of up to 200GHz are currently on its way. Applying this paint on your house will give you a wi-fi “protective shield”, signals will never get out of your house. Signals transmitted outside your wall can never get inside as well.
Movie houses
One of its helpful application is at movie houses. The Anti-wi-fi paint can help moviegoers enjoy watching movies without worrying of disturbances from mobile phone. Cellphone operates in a lower frequency, but the anti-wi-fi paint maker claim that their paint can block lower set of frequencies.
Our current mobile phones work at much lower frequencies, around 1.5 gigahertz. But, our material can also absorb frequencies that low, so you could block phone signals from outside and stop people’s phones ringing during the movie
On clothing
Excessive exposure to electromagnetic waves can be harmful to the human body. And employing the same technology on clothing can protect children and pregnant mothers from these harmful signals.
Wrap up
The anti-wi-fi paint technology isn’t that totally new. However, present establishments could still benefit from it. If you’re wondering how much would this paint cost, you can buy 1kg for £10 or 750 pesos (a little pricey if you’ll ask us).
Of course, not all people would agree on blocking outside signals from entering their houses. On this case, you can’t use your mobile phones inside your home. And how about satellite TVs that also operates on these same frequency ranges? (You can’t watch ESPN anymore).
There are many alternative solutions to secure your wi-fi devices. WPA security on routers are very effective on our case to screen-out unwanted visitors. Manufacturers of security cameras are now working on improving their products so as to limit broadcasting on other wireless receivers.
A commentator said about unsecured wireless routers, if you feel that your router is prone to hackers, why not go back to good ole ethernet cables. It’s practical and way way cheaper than this paint.

Hi I was just wondering I you knew the answers to three of my questions about this paint:
1. If you paint a room with this paint and then you repaint the room with another normal wall paint would that stop the paint working?
2. Considering the ingredients of the paint, does anyone know if it would be dangerous to have this in a child’s room, if say they decided for god knows what reason to lick the wall?
3. Is this resonation simply repeating the refractive wave of the original electromagnetic wave hence neutralizing, and if this is the case doesn’t that just mean you have double the electromagnetic waves around and so it’s no more “healthy” for you? Sorry I’m not a scientist so this question is probably wildly inaccurate in its description of what I’m trying to ask.
Thank you for replying if you have the time and know anything about this.
