I agree with you Brian — in the grand scheme of things it’s just another piece of Yuppie junk. You need an iPad to look cool. It has fulfilled that purpose, but its success is a backward step and slap in the face for consumer freedom and innovation in computing.

What I find the most amusing here is that you have all of these people complaining and whining and crying about what they can’t have or what Apple should have given them and how they’re never going to buy an iPad and blah blah blah. Boo f*cking hoo!!! Obviously you have been outvoted. Obviously there are over 2 million people out there who just don’t give a flying f*ck what you think and are proving that all of this BS is completely worthless in the grand scheme of the iPad for its intended purposes. Get over yourselves.

It’s a pretty empty claim to make that the iPad delivers all the web to the palm of your hands when there is no Flash support, and really limited support for different video formats. C’mon Apple, how hard can it be?? A freeware and genius program like VLC can play practically ANYTHING and yet an iPad user is gonna have to stuff around with conversion tools just to enjoy a bit of video.

Ever heard of “FLEX”? Apple is pooping in its trousers. Flex Apps redefine web app experience, and there are a lot of new apps / sites coming up every day. Few years to phase out Flash?? I bet not!! Apple users will be left out of these. The right thing to do would be include an advanced safety option to enable Flash if the user understands the risks.

Hi, thank you for the clarification. Apple as of today, doesn’t confirm if it will add a Microsoft Suite APP on its iPad. (http://www.macnn.com/articles/10/04/02/company.sees.no.threat.from.google/) So your best bet is, that you go on for a netbook. Now, as for Microsoft Word, Apple has an equivalent iPad App version for that, which is called the iWork, now for other office programs, (e.g: excel, note, outlook, etc) Apple doesn’t have an answer for that.

For CD player, I haven’t heard about any external CD player / Optical media player, which can be connected with the iPad. (iPad doesn’t have any real USB ports, like the iPhone/ iPod Touch)

I don’t have the netbook YET, so I am asking for the need of word and internet, and the question about java, the need for the feedback is prior to making a choice. For a newbee…..relatively, which would you recommend…..and do you know if OFFICE PROGRAM which includes word, excel, power point, outlook,access, note, publisher, info path, and grooves, can be downloaded to the IPAD (yes, I know, with the additional disc player)?
All advice is appreciated.

It’ll be hard to shift to a new device, especially if the one that you had been using has been around with you for so long. iPad has its own word-processing app, but I doubt that it’ll give you that same feeling with the MS word on your netbook.

If the only reason why you’re going to buy an iPad, are because of the 2 points you are referring above, then I think its kind of moot, in my opinion. Thank you

I am electronically challenged, I need something simple. My main needs are internet browsing and microsoft word. Do you recomment the Ipad over a netbook? How about Dell’s mini 10? Does it need/have java?

How many mobile devices let you play divx or mkv (contained) files? The vast majority? I think not. And how many devices (such as video cameras) require proprietary software to control and manage? Open your damn eyes and you’ll find that MOST companies do this or have done this before. It’s nothing new and most certainly nothing “invented” by Apple so quit bitching. If you don’t like their products then don’t buy them? Plain and simple if you ask me.
