The Mac Pro remains physically the same like its predecessors. Basically, it comes with 2 basic configurations which can be easily customized. The first one is available at $2,499 while the second is offered at $ 3,499.

It offers two advanced processors from Intel, first is the quad-core Intel Xeon ”Nehalem” processor which is available in a single-processor and quad-core configuration at a speed of3.2 GHz. But if you want greater speed then “Westmere” series will be a better choice. It is available in both quad-core and 6-core versions. This is Intel’s next generation processor which is based on the latest 32-nm process technology.

The Mac Pro comes with either a single or two processors which gives you the option to choose between a 6-core Mac Pro at 3.33 GHz, an 8-core system at 2.4GHz or if you want a totally maximum performance then you may opt to choose the 12-core system which is up to 2.93GHz.

Aside from this, the Mac Pro also comes with a more powerful graphic card module. The ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1 GB of GDDR5 memory is perfect for motion graphics, HD playback, 3D modeling and 3D animation as well. Amazingly, it gives a faster performance and believed to be even faster than the top-of-the-line graphic cards previously offered. This upgrade to the ATI Radeon appears to be a very ideal choice since it features wider memory and faster performance which is great for the most demanding applications.

The Mac Pro also improved its storage capacity. It comes with four 3.5 inch drive bays for an even bigger internal storage. You can have access to 8TB of hard drive space (2TB x 4) each with 3GB /s SATA (Serial ATA) channel. The new Mac Pro also has a “cable-free direct-attach” hard drive installation system to have a cleaner inside look of CPU.  Or, if you want, you can try the new (and expensive) solid state drive for less heat and power consumption in your system. The new Mac Pro can accommodate up to four 512GB SSD giving you 2TB of storage space.

To top it all, the Mac Pro comes with the Mac OS X in 64-bit mode which is believe to be one of the most powerful OS. With this OS you can take full advantage 64-bit architecture of the Intel Xeon processor inside your Mac Pro.This new Mac Pro seems to be the most powerful desktop Apple has ever. It is expected to hit the stores in August. The price tags are as follows: quad-core is available at $2,499, eight-core at $3,499 and the twelve-core at $ 4,999.

Wow, what a biased advertisement. 4 cores, 8 cores, 12 cores, 24 cores, it is mostly irrelevant in the world of personal computing. This is especially true on a mac. There are a small number of programs that are capable of utilizing larger numbers of processors, and for that, it is good. The performance difference you see, for example, how long it would take to encode a video, is rather small. For the price, you aren’t really getting your moneys worth. Generally larger numbers of processors are useful for servers and some specific types of work stations. However, this machine would make a terrible web server and a less than ideal workstation.

@ a person You sounded like that other breed of fanboy who opposed apple, so much… Pff.

5K is too much for the base computer. You know you’re going to need to add more to it, by the time you’re finished configuring it you’ll bee at 6 1/2K or higher. Then you have the cost of your video equipment if you’re going to get into that. It’s like the 80s and 90s all over again. Video is getting to be too expensive for normal folks. Apple Haters can hate all the want, but their hate can’t hide the success and performance of Apple computers. I just wish they weren’t so darned expensive :(

I think you are mistaking perspective for hate folks. There is no fanboy involved. Most companies can make an equivalent system for far less. I’ve been building computers for a while, the focus point being the cores, 4 core CPUs are old news. Look into the release date of the Q9xxx series and when they were released for example. What it sounds like Matt is trying to say, and what I am saying is, these systems are worth at least half as much as they cost. Here is an example, search ‘AMD Opteron 6168′. I promise you, you can build a 12 core system for around 3k, not 5k. Also, look into hackintosh if you really think that operating system is so amazing, have fun emulating windows programs in the background. Hah.

$5k for a 12-core is really not bad considering 10 years ago I purchased a dual-Pentium 833Mhz for $4k (w/o any OS) from Dell. It is still running and serving me well, BTW. What would be nice is to see a dual 12-core. :-)

In any case, “consumer” operating systems should not be the only thing offered with these systems. I dont know if there are anything other than consumer operating systems but to run Windows on that or OS X or even Linux is not going to get me the full experience, IMO.

What would be really cool is if IBM would finally develop an OS much like their MVS product for multi-core arrangements, even multiple multi-core arrangements… There is a market for that aside from power geeks..

Man it sounds more like a mainframe computer to me. I hope that this news won’t be a myth or like something being just made to fool people. Thanks for posting.
