Apple, the famous creator of iPad, has recently sued another competitor, Motorola. Apple allegedly sues Motorola for infringing six of its product patents. Two lawsuits against Motorola have been filed under the Western Wisconsin District Court. There were about nine Motorola products that are included in the said infringement cases. This includes Motorola Droid X, BackFlip, Devour i1, and six other products.


The six patent infringements covered in the two cases were:
First Complaint (Case No. 10-CV-661):
- U.S. PATENT NO. 7,812,828: Ellipse Fitting for Multi-Touch Surfaces. Patent Abstract includes apparatus and methods disclosed for simultaneous finger tracking and palm contacts.
- U.S. PATENT NO. 7,663,607: Multipoint Touchscreen. Patent Abstract includes a transparent capacitive touch panel that detects multiple or near touches.
- U.S. PATENT NO. 5,379,430: Object-Oriented System Locator System. Patent Abstract includes a method for adding system components without running an installation program.
Second Complaint (Case No. 10-CV-662)
- U.S. PATENT NO. 7,497,949: Touch Screen Device, Method, and Graphical User Interface for Determining Commands by Applying Heuristics. This relates to Apple’s Inventions involving detecting user gestures on a touch screen display.
- U.S. PATENT NO. 6,493,002: Method and Apparatus for Displaying and Accessing Control and Status Information in a Computer System. This relates to Apple’s Inventions displaying a status and control function bar.
- U.S. PATENT NO. 5,838,315: Support for Custom User-Interaction Elements in a Graphical, Event-Driven Computer System. This relates to Apple’s Inventions with elements involving user-interactions in a graphical user interface.
Meanwhile as Apple seeks to receive judgement, Motorola has already received a summon from the Western Wisconsin District Court.
