Archos has been starting making names by coming out with portable media devices as well as powered Android tablets. The company is behind Archos 5 Internet Tablet which is one of the first Android tablets that shipped without 3G network. It has been coming out with the latest tablets which aim to bridge the gap between the smartphones and desktop PCs bringing the best of both worlds in one device.

Just recently, Archos has just announced the upcoming arrival of two of its brand new tablets, the Archos 7-inch and 8-inch Home Tablets. Among these two, the Archos 8 has not made much public showing since a brief appearance back in May through FCC and details regarding this home tablet have been very limited.
Although at a glance, it simply looks more of a digital picture frame and it appears that it was primarily designed in such a way that a table or desk will be needed but you can easily fold away its kickstand and do a little web browsing. Basically, this is something different as compared with the Archos 5 and 7. The Archos 8 Home Tablet is simply perfect for displaying family pictures through its digital photo frame application, web browsing and accessing various web services.
The Archos 8 sports an 8-inch 800 x 600 resolution display touchscreen which is perfectly fit for browsing the web, enjoying your favorite videos and music, playing games and much more. It runs with a Google Android 1.5 OS (probably no upgrade) and ships with an ARM 9 processor running at 600MHz and has an 8GB storage capacity. It also comes with a nice big kickstand behind the tablet that can easily be fold away. It only measures around 12mm thick and weighs 400 grams.

The Archos 8 can handle video playback, web surfing and other mobile tech jobs. This device has been especially designed to keep users updated through easy access to information around the globe such news, weather updates, latest trends and the like. It provides easy access anywhere anytime to the web and other multimedia contents as well, in a large screen format.
The Archos 8 Home Tablet also offers services such as Cookineo, which is a cooking recipes application, a local business directory for your household needs and weather information. This makes it a perfect device to stay not only on your offices but also in your kitchen, living room, and bedroom as well.
As of present, the Archos 8 is not yet available in the market and release date hasn’t been specified by Archos yet. Price for this device is expected to be ranging from $199 and up.

The Archos 8 Home Tablet is unique in that it is portable enough to carry around, but a wonderful addition would be if it had any 3g or 4g capabilities like a sim card for data. Embedded its circuitry would be a stretch, but certainly doable if it didn’t affect the price point too much.
