Asus Eee PC 1201k Netbook Revealed | Specs

Posted on 15 June 2010 by pinoytutorial

Asus or Asustek Company, Inc. is a multinational computer product manufacturer that recently launched its netbook touted as Eee PC 1201K. The netbook which looks like a hand-carried model smaller than a laptop is Asus’ series for its slogan “Easy to Learn, Easy to Work, Easy to Play”. Now, amidst growing competition from other computer manufacturers, it dares to stand by its name as a leading company in manufacturing innovative products. So let’s take a peek at this new product.

ASUS 1201K Asus Eee PC 1201k Netbook Revealed | Specs

The 3.2lb machine is home to a 12.1 inch LED display which is larger than the average 10.1 inch notebooks that Asus has grown accustomed with. The netbook’s main feature is the AMD Geode NX 1750 processor with a SiS 741GX/966L chipset. It can be configured with a choice of 160GB, 250GB or 320GB of  hard drive space together with a 1GB of  memory RAM (DDR1 SO-DIMM). It has a multi-card reader, VGA-out, two USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, audio jacks, a mic, and a 0.3MP webcam.  Finally, it will have a Windows XP Home Edition as its operating system.

In knowing the specifications, how would this fair in the market?

A 12.1 inch LED screen is bigger than other notebooks, but with this kind of size it’s almost a laptop. Its LED backlit display is just the norm. Almost all screens nowadays feature the same thing. The option of the hard drive storage I think will determine its price with the lower storage capacity commanding a lesser price of course. The DDR1 RAM should have been up to 2 gigs at least (and DDR2/DDR3), and can go far from 4 to 6 gigs like in other netbook models.  It could have upgraded to Windows 7 though the memory isn’t fit to handle the stress.

In terms of other features, almost every netbook brands have the same feature and more. The battery life of this product is hardly new at all, and there are fears that it’s just going to be used for maximum of two hours. With all these things said, I don’t think you’ll like this new product unless you’re a fan of AMD Geode NX processor which delivers superior computing performance. It’s the only thing they can boast of. No words about its price yet, but I guess it will fit your budget perfectly.
