ASUS Eee PC 1201N Specs, Review and Video demo

Posted on 20 December 2009 by pinoytutorial

There are a growing number of 11 and 12 inch laptops available in the market with Intel Atom processors and NVIDIA ION graphics. However, the Asus Eee PC 1201N is something unique and rather unusual.

The Asus Eee PC 1201N is the first 12.1 inch laptop with 1366 x 768 pixel display NVIDIA ION graphics and a dual core Atom 330 CPU – which is generally found in desktop computers. This notebook is better in the graphics and processing departments than other netbook and laptops. In addition, its battery life is more than a typical netbook. With this power and capability, the ASUS Eee PC 1201N proves to have better performance than several Atom powered netbooks. In fact it can go head to head with competing ION-powered laptops from popular brands such as Lenovo, HP and Samsung.

Indepth look under the hood

It is during multitasking or running applications when dual core atom boots this baby to take advantage of multiple cores. On the other hand, dual core processor will not make any big differences from a dual core Intel CULV processor for many activities. NVIDIA ION graphics is also more powerful than the GMA 4500MHD graphics which is found mostly in CULV systems.

The Asus Eee PC 1201N review:- Here’s a brief summary of the review:

  • Engadget– This net-book is good for gaming and HD video, but for general use the battery life is about 3.5hours and for video playback it is about 2.5 hours.
  • Hot Hardware – It performs the lower cost HP Mini 311 in graphics
  • Notebook Review –Screen color is good and above the average net-book CPU performance, good graphics, but the battery life is not proper.
  • Laptop Magazine – The dual core CPU is 2 xs faster than single core Atom for video trans-coding, and 4xs faster when using a CUDA-enabled encoder.

So after hearing different reviews and opinions on this notebook it has been suggested as well  that ASUS 1201N was designed to fit a market segment that didn’t really need to be ‘filled’. Its graphics are much better than most CULV-based notebooks, but processing power is not much good. It has a faster processor than most netbooks, but not the same kind of battery life. It is about $499 and might be the best notebook in the market segment, having low end, light weight, portable gamin rig. Although if you opt to use this gadget  other than gaming then it might be better to get a CULV-based machine. Check video review to see more details on this device.
