Originally the EP101TC was reported to be running the Windows Embedded Compact 7 OS. After a month, it seems that Asus had change its mind and will go for an Android OS instead. It is not much of a surprise since most manufacturers are moving away from Windows for their tablet computers and resort to Google’s Android OS.

According to Netbook News, ASUS is currently working on its prototype model using the Android 2.2 Froyo version for trial purposes. Although, it appears that ASUS is planning to wait for the Android 3.0 to settle and make it their final OS for the EP101TC tablet. The Android 3.0 promises much wider functionality than its previous version and is quite power efficient as well. With the Android 3.0 on the ASUS EP101TC tablet, surely it will turn a lot of heads and captivate the attention of many.

Aside from these details on its OS, the EP101TC tablet will come in a 10-inch touchscreen display. It is also very portable at a weight of only 675 grams and 12.2 mm thick. This sleek tablet can easily be fitted into your pocket without worrying about the bulge at all.

As of present, the actual details and specifications of the EP101TC tablet have been very limited. There were some rumors that it will come with the latest NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, and a 2 megapixels integrated webcam like in ASUS Eee Pad EP121.

Physically, the ASUS EP101TC tablet comes in a very simple yet elegant design. It has a matte black finish with an aluminum edge. The EP101TC tablet also comes with 10 hours of battery life, which is definitely sufficient enough to finish your tasks on hand. The users can also access their favorite social networking site or enjoy their favorite movies after.

The EP101TC looks very promising. At this point we’ll just to have to wait for its official specs to know what it has to offer. ASUS stated that the first public unveiling of its new tablet computers would happen in the International Consumer Show (CES 2011). But some telcos will be able to get a sneak peek at these devices on December.

The EP101TC will be available within the first quarter of 2011 and expected to be within the price range of $399 to $449.

The Asus EP101TC tablet computer is a welcomed entry into the touch tablet marketplace. It will be up against robust competitors, such as Acer, Dell and Toshiba. Each will be offering a tablet computer and are in talks with Microsoft regarding their operating systems. It’s going to be lots of choices for the consumer, especially when we include the yet to be released, HP Touch Tablet with the renowned Palm webOS sometime this fall.
