Just when we thought laptops are the latest in technology. Oh boy, we were so wrong! Here comes a new line of inventions… the Eee Pad and Tablet!
Although it’s hard to pronounce considering that is has three e’s in it, Eee refers to a family of computer products in line with ASUS advertising slogan abbreviation: “Easy to learn, Easy to work, Easy to play”. It includes a long line of products namely an Eee PC which is a portable computer, Eee Box that is a desktop computer, Eee Keyboard that is one computer within a keyboard, Eee Pad which is a dual-touchscreen “Flipbook” notebook, Eee Reader which is good as an e-book, Eee Stick that is an accessory bundled with specific models, and Eee Top which is a touch-screen desktop computer.
Asus is the developer of all these. Asus or Asustek, a Taiwan-based multinational manufacturer of computer products produces motherboards, laptops, servers and even mobile phones. The company also is a part-time manufacturer for Apple Inc., Dell, Falcon Northwest and Hewlett-Packard making products for them.
The new Eee Tablet which was introduced at Computex 2010 in Taipei, Taiwan is officially known as the ASUS Eee Pad EP121.
The 12-inch EP121 that runs Intel’s Core 2 Duo CULV processors or Consumer Ultra-Low Voltage (CULV) is a computing platform developed by Intel which because of their being low-powered and having low heat output allows very thin computer systems, and long battery life of 10 hours. Having a Windows 7 system turns the computer with an improved speed and less amount of RAM usage.
It also improves Media Sharing, which allows the use of better enhancements and drag and drop features which can make media viewing a more lively experience. It also improves home networking which allows easier tasks in sharing information and also makes the network less vulnerable to hackers. It has better accessories like the calculator, text editor, Microsoft Office speech recognition, Paint, and more effects on sticky notes. You can also use touch-screen or a hybrid keyboard attached to it.
Truly it’s a wonderful invention which can turn a smaller flat screen into a laptop just by attaching the keyboards. This Eee Pad also is lighter than the iPad. It’s only 12.2mm thick and weighs 1.48Lbs. It also has one USB port and an embedded webcam that can be used for educational and video chat purposes. Another variant, the EP101TC is similar in all features of EP121 but only sports a 10-inch display screen. ASUS gives a price range of $399 to $499 and won’t be out until the first quarter of 2011.
