Today is a good day for all those who are waiting for the official announcement of Asus Transformer Prime. While the device was confirmed by Asus’ CEO Jonney Shih last month, its official PR statement are nowhere to be found – only leaks on the web. Well, that’s about to change as the full specs, release date and price of the much anticipated Android hybrid tablet is now confirmed
Full Specifications
As expected, it’ll be under a 10.1-inch Gorilla glass display (1280×800) resolution with 8.3mm thick chassis for its form-factor which is a huge improvement from the thickness of its predecessor. It’s powered by a quad-core Tegra 3 CPU making this the first tablet in the world to receive such treatment. Along with that is a powerful 8MP rear camera with auto-focus and f/2.4 lens enabling it to shoot more efficiently on lowlight and capture 1080p videos; of course, it has a 1.2MP front-facing camera for video chat as well. Meanwhile, its battery life is phenomenal too since Asus confirms it can last up to 12 hours and in case you need an extra boost, its dock adds another six hours of power. For those who are unaware, this is the Transformers Pad’s ultimate design making it one of the most popular Android tablet in the market today.
Price and Release Date
For its pricing and availability, its 32GB model will have a price of $499 which is an eye-candy matching the 16GB iPad 2 (WiFi-only version), while the 64GB variant will be tagged at $599. Naturally, the keyboard dock that act as an external battery will come as an optional accessory priced at $149. Interestingly, Asus did confirm the device will have a full-sized SD slot to increase the storage capacity of Prime even more, along with those usual goodies like USB 2.0 port, gyroscope, SonicMaster Audio, GPS and micro HDMI port so you can connect it with your HDMI-ready television if you need a bigger display.
Its release date is bound to arrive this December shipped with Android 3.2 (Honeycomb). Likewise, it’s expected to receive Ice Cream Sandwich soon in which we hope it’ll arrive before the end of this year but in case it doesn’t, we’re confident users will be able to receive it on the start of next year.
