Yesterday, Asus launched Transformer Prime’s latest OTA update (v8.3.33) enhancing the device’s GPS capability and other features. However, that issue about Prime’s locked bootloader still goes unanswered for the rest of the community.
Right now, we received a confirmation the company has already spoken on its fan page giving light to those inquiries like why the hybrid-tablet’s capability to support GPS was removed.

As reiterated, Transformer Prime’s body is made from a metallic unibody design, that fact may affect the performance of GPS when receiving satellite signals for coordinates. Since the device is not a “professional device”, its efficiency can be hampered by external elements like buildings, weather and the environment itself thus, its capability as a GPS tool is limited. Because of those reasons, Asus decided to fully remove it on Prime’s specifications.
On the other hand, the locked bootloader is a decision made by the company because of content provider’s requirements for DRM client devices tackling its security aspects. The message also hinted the company’s statement on how “rooting” a device can risk breaking its system. In lieu of this problem, the Asian company announced it’ll develop its own unlock tool for the benefit of the modding community, although proceeding with the task still voids your device’s warranty.
Right now there’s still no word when will Asus launch the new tool but we can bet it should arrive soon.
