AT&T VS VERIZON: Judges reject AT&T call to pull verizon ads

Posted on 20 November 2009 by pinoytutorial

The tribal has spoken! and it appears this battle for the “survival of the verizon ads” already has a sweet spot in the eyes of the judges. Not saying this case is already over but from the looks of it, AT&T “toddlers” may finally have a reason to cry now, especially when their appeal for putting Verizon’s commercials to a halt was not favored by the court.

According to AJC

Federal judge said Wednesday that Verizon ads for its 3G wireless service might be “sneaky” but they’re not misleading, and he denied a request by Atlanta-based rival AT&T Mobility to force Verizon to yank or alter the commercials. AT&T VS VERIZON: Judges reject AT&T call to pull verizon ads

But the judge granted AT&T attorneys another chance to make their case at a follow-up hearing set for Dec. 16.

Judge Batten said people might “misunderstand” the commercials, “but that doesn’t mean they’re misleading.”

He noted that TV viewers aren’t always alert.

“Most people who are watching TV are semi-catatonic,” he said, prompting laughter. “They’re not fully alive.”

You will never guess what happened next! Later after the show in the courtroom, AT&T decided to put some remedy on their fallen-ego and guess what? They made an advertisement speaking about the glory that was AT&T! The punchline here is, the commercial looks like it was half-baked – In fact many of the viewers saw this one too and it made them scream “BOOO!”

Others thought it was very ridiculous to use Luke Wilson to retort with Verizon’s “There’s a map for that ads”.

Oh by the way, in case you want to know where Mr. Wilson got that script – here’s a link from AT&T. Luke ends the advertisement with “And the last item? Well, that is a “name that starts with the letter V,” Obviously, a poke against Verizon nonetheless not very amusing.

Actually the reason why the ads looks ludicrous and at the same time cheap, is the way it copycats the “There’s an app for that” by Apple which became a hit on February this year.

So, see you guys on December 16! Will AT&T have a HO-HO-HO this Christmas or will they be hiding under the chimney the whole yuletide season? Watch-out!
