Sustainable energy efficient products are all the rage these days. Take for example when Logitech announced their Solar powered Keyboard, the wireless K750 keyboard. It’s wireless, its solar powered, its for desktops, what else do you want?
Well how about for laptops? Yes that’s right, there is also a solar powered keyboard for laptops too. Although it’s only in the development stage as of this moment, it already looks promising if what Logitech has released has anything to say about it.
Taiwan-based flat panel maker AU Optronics Corp (AUO) just presented the technology on Wednesday. The device will be based on touchpanel technology with embedded solar panels routed to the rechargeable batteries of a laptop. Think of the Toshiba Libretto, but as a Laptop and instead of dual tablet screens, it’s a full functioning laptop.
The 14-inch solar-powered touch keyboard solution for notebook demo unit that they presented Wednesday has two solar panels; one on the keyboard and one on the top cover. Currently it is only aimed for Netbooks, but it can easily be adapted to large sized laptops with current Solar Panel technology.
Expect to see this model again in November 10-12 at the upcoming FPD International 2010 in Chiba, Japan.
