Pirates are a big nuisance in our world today and the government is finding ways to put a stop to them…or at least prevent attacks from them while avoiding armed guards on the ships of commercial shipping agents for protection.

The BAE System’s Optics and Laser Technology Department has conducted some experiments so that laser distraction could be non-lethal weapons and they have now developed a laser beam that can go for different distances and conditions.
The laser beam’s purpose is to warn pirates at a distance at 2km and to disorient attackers so that they cannot fire their weapons at their targets. Despite the bright light, it is still safe for the eyes. The laser works for both day and night and that the distraction effect can work more when beam patterns are changed.
But there still some requirements needed in order for the laser to be placed on commercial ships like some ship radar and sensor systems in order to control the direction of the beam. Then, there should also be a security system so that pirates won’t be able to use it when they board the ship.
Also, for it to be safe, human tests have to be conducted in order to see if it is realty safe for the eyes. This has to be done first before it will be released commercially. For now, there is still no release date and price for this laser system, so keep watching for updates.
