Wondering if that leak report over a remake of Baldur’s Gate was truly legit? Well, it appears the condition is in half-full / half-empty.
The good news: Baldur’s Gate will certainly receive an Enhanced Edition and it will be released this summer all with new content and eye-candies to follow.
Bad news: There’s no mention if this will be a full remake or just an HD cosmetic with the original Baldur’s Gate most Gen-Y kids of the late nineties know.
Interestingly, if you’ll check its official site, details about its developers are revealed consisting of Overhaul games, Wizards of the Coast and Atari who are now working with Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2 Enhanced edition. Both games will be a “re-forged” version of the Infinity Engine (the original engine used for Baldur’s Gate series) along with a “variety” of improvements.
Assuming the ones they’re talking about is the Bhaalspawn saga, it would be cool to know if our devs are planning to give the same treatment for Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance series which was developed by Snowblind Studios on 2001.
However, our biggest concern is, how the graphics of this enhanced version will look like. Personally, it will be sad to know all these buzz will end up with the usual 16-bit image quality. To make things even worse, the site’s background exemplifies this reality. If you’re still playing Morrowind or Diablo 2 today, you know exactly what we mean.
Somehow, we wonder if this move was all just a half-bake decision brought by the fire of seeing Diablo 3 release on May? As we all know, both franchise shaped the foundation of role-play gaming more than a decade ago. We keep our fingers crossed!
