Beware: Job seekers are the current target of Email scams

Posted on 05 December 2009 by pinoytutorial

WMTW reported that several unemployed Americans may at some point be targeted by email scams proliferating in the internet. These email scammers take advantage of the tight economic situation and on people who are constantly searching jobs and posting their resumes online. In one instance, a lady posted her job resume online and received a very peculiar letter from an alleged company HR.

The letter told her that the a company was considering her for the position. However, it requires that she should provide very personal information like SSS number, credit card etc. Fortunately, the lady wasn’t that naive and desperate to bite this email bait. See video report for more details on this cyber scam.

In the Philippines, the use of credit card isn’t that too popular among job hunters and the general public. However, Filipinos, just like other job seekers in the world are using the internet to post their job credentials. It has several advantages but there’s a downside to it as well. Generally, scammers’ main target are your email addresses, telephone numbers, credit card and SSS id numbers. Typically, they will use this information and pretend to be that person commonly known as “identity theft”. They will squeeze cash from either using your credit card or use your identity to dupe others and protect their asses.

So remember, if you’re looking for a job online, always keep in mind that there are always “snakes” lingering around and waiting for you to take that false step. Never give your information unless you are very sure and/or verified the person communicating with you. Lastly, if the job offer sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.
