One thing we can all agree with Apple is that the company doesn’t jump onto half-baked technology. Perhaps, this is the reason why those iDevices equipped with LTE radios aren’t there yet; although we have a feeling that time will happen soon. Meanwhile, for those who are interested to know the other innovation Apple has in stored for customers, the blogosphere reports about this newly patented application from USPTO revealing the possibility of iPhone / iPod Touch and iPad finally harnessing the power of three-dimensional interface.
Just a refresher, it was 2009 when insiders reported that Big A is developing an advanced 3D GUI for its devices. Followed by related patent application for 3D multifunctional widgets and gestures on 2010. As patentlyapple suggests, all of these preparation are significant on bringing the seamless 3D User Interface for Cupertino’s future igadgets. And from the looks of it, everything sounds new and haven’t been introduced on 3D-enabled gadgets we currently have in the market.
To give you a summary, the new invention allows a 3D display for mobile device to orient itself automatically with respect to the environment’s 3D projection without users even touching it. As such, it can also be changed through particular gestures should the user chooses to change its 3D orientation via proximity sensor arrays. But that’s not all, there are three more significant features noted on the report like: “shifting camera views” enabling the 3D environment to change once the user rotates their mobile device, “Snap To” feature using camera’s position to determine a precise 3D orientation and, a far-more advanced 3D graphics rendering engine hinting the system won’t rely with its CPU but through its GPU as well.
Likewise, no one can tell when will this invention be implemented. Until that day arrives, we’ll be waiting.
