In today’s business world, tablet PCs have become increasingly popular maybe because it’s light and easy to use as compared with the regular laptops available in the market. The tablet wars continue to heat up as more manufacturers get into the tablet market and come out with their own tablet version.
Apple released the iPad back in April and became the hottest gadget of the year. In fact, Apple has sold more than 3 million iPad since the day it was released. The success of Apple’s iPad inspired other manufacturers as well, like Dell who launched the Dell Streak last June. Samsung is also set to launch its own version of tablet PC in the coming months.
And joining the tablet wars is BlackBerry manufacturer Research in Motion, who has been rumored lately to be developing the BlackBerry BlackPad, a new tablet computer. Apparently, RIM is holding a developer’s conference in San Francisco to be held next week to introduce this new tablet device together with other upcoming BlackBerry smartphones.

The BlackPad is the unofficial name of an upcoming tablet computer that is scheduled to be released by RIM by the end of the year. This upcoming tablet will feature a 7-inch touchscreen display, built-in camera and the capability to link wirelessly to cellular networks through BlackBerry smartphones.
As reported in a Chinese daily newspaper, RIM has chosen the Taiwanese notebook manufacturer named Quanta to produce around 2 million tablets this year for them. RIM and Quanta is targeting a retail price of around $ 500 for this upcoming tablet, which is definitely a competitive price for a tablet device.
This upcoming BlackBerry tablet will run a new operating system that was designed by QNX Software, a company that was acquired by RIM early this year. In addition to these, it will also support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity. But as compared with other tablet device that has built-in connectivity features, the BlackPad will be tethering the device to a BlackBerry phone.
It seems that RIM is on a mission of coming up with devices that will attract more consumers and offer them a life maximizing experience. And with the upcoming launch of the BlackBerry BlackPad it seems that RIM is really heading towards this direction.
