Blackberry Messenger (BBM) for iPhone and Android — Release Issues

Posted on 04 March 2011 by pinoytutorial

The digital world of mobile phones is currently composed of 3 major communities, the iPhone, Blackberry, and Android users. As each platform is distinct from another, mobile phone buyers are left asking themselves which one they’d choose as an everyday ally.

Well, the decision-making may have just gotten easier (or harder) with the availability of the Blackberry Messenger application to Android and iOS. At first glance, this looks like a wrong move since Blackberry Messenger is probably the main reason why its users prefer BB phones over the other smart phones out there.

The reason behind this, according to certain quarters, is the desperation of the smart phone messaging pioneer RIM (Research in Motion) as it finds itself in a tough competition with Android and Windows. The popularity of Blackberry Messenger has paved the way for other messaging applications like Kik Messenger, and WhatsApp.

These applications allow iPhone and Android users to chat in a similar format used by Blackberry Messenger. Of course, this comes as a threat to Blackberry Messenger’s domination in the messaging market. So making the application available to the other platforms will enable it to gain control over the the entire smart phone messaging world.

That seems to be a good point. We just don’t know what kind of impact this will have on Blackberry’s status in the smart phone competition. The competition is already tough as it is.

The Android BBM will possibly push through this year although the iOS version may still take some time. For now, let’s just wait and see.

I am sure it was a hard decision and it may make some heads spin. I was in love with the BBM and it didn’t stop me from leaving. I am sure that is the case for several others. With multiple other IM options out there what choice was there? BBM is superior and I hope it stays that way once it makes it over to android. If it doesn’t have all the same features BB will be dead to me, for life. They can’t keep up technology…piss poor leadership and a serious lack of innovation. I guess that is what happens after the ideas you steal lose their life span.

Sensible comments/suggestions are always appreciated.
