Many Blackberry fans will probably be blown away with the news about Research In Motion’s newest Pearl member – The Blackberry Pearl 9100. Most Pearl fans have been awaiting for the successor of the Pearl series starting from the Pearl flip 8220 to 8100, 8120 and the last one being 8110. RIM probably have invested a lot of effort and cash on developing the 9100. We hope it will pay off.
Several blogs and sites offered a few snippets of what the Blackberry Pearl 9100 can do. We only saw fragments of its specifications and some images and I have to say they look impressive on paper. The earliest news on the smartphone was announced last Nov. 2009. There are rumors saying that the latest Pearl smartphone will be formally unveiled on April during the Blackberry WES 2010 event in Orlando Florida (April 27-29) . For the sake of new readers, Wireless Enterprice Symposium is an annual event focusing on different trends and plans for RIM’s Blackberry smartphone products. We’ll see if the news is true.
We have gathered all the good stuff (technical specifications) to provide accurate information on the Blackberry Pearl 9100. Firstly, it will retain the candybar-style similar with the Blackberry 9700. The Pearl 9100 will either have the codename striker or stratus although we’re not sure what’s the significance of these names. It might add suspense and mystery on the gadget, who knows? The blackberry will be endowed with 3MP camera with LED flash, a micro USB port at the side (view video after the cut to learn more on the phone structure), WiFi, 3G connection, standard 3.5mm audio jack, dedicated music keys at the top side of the phone, Email and messenger features.
The BB Pearl 9100 will be using the latest Blackberry OS (V5.0). The trackball will be replaced with a trackpad for more fluid navigation and a “suretype” keyboard to replace the traditional blackberry QWERTY keys. For some people, the suretype keys might be a little annoying to use given that 2 letters are placed in a single key. The design is utilized to make the smartphone more compact and pocketable. In fact, it looks 30% less bulkier than the Blackberry Storm2 when placed side by side. The 9100 made a redesign on its battery although we’re not sure if the battery lifespan is improved.
We certainly love the images and features on the new Blackberry Pearl 9100. RIM added that with the new Blackberry Pearl smartphone, they aim to target a bigger audience. They will not focus on the tradition business oriented consumers but hope to catch the attention of multimedia fans as well. RIM officials still have its lips zip on the price tag of this phone. Don’t worry, we’ll keep you posted.
