There were some ongoing rumors that apparently, Research in Motion (RIM) is preparing to launch a new version of the BlackBerry Storm. According to these rumors, the new BlackBerry Storm will be coming out as BlackBerry Storm 3 and will include a mobile hotspot function.
According to a very reliable source, the upcoming BlackBerry Storm 3 will sport a 3.7-inch touchscreen, which is pretty much bigger than the existing 3.2-inches BlackBerry Storm. The source likewise confirmed that this upcoming phone will come with an 8 GB internal storage and the device is tiny yet slimmer and feels about the same weight or even lighter as compared with the BlackBerry Storm 2. However, the source did not mention anything about the rumored mobile hotspot function.
Aside from these features, the Blackberry Storm 3 is also rumored to carry the following specs:
- BlackBerry 6 OS
- Comes with a WebKit Browser
- 512MB of RAM
- 5 MP camera that comes with a new UI
- Wi-Fi 802.11n
Basically, the BlackBerry Storm 3 will feature a bigger screen, trackpad and a support for augmented reality and potentially operate as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. An updated SurePress , LTE (Long Term Evolution) network capability and a 1GHz processor will power the next generation of the BlackBerry Storm.
The specs mentioned above may not be really impressive as compared with a lot of Android phones that have equal or even much better specs available in the market. Overall, it seems that this upcoming mobile phone looks more of just a slightly upgraded version of the BlackBerry Storm 2. (See image below)
Apparently, it appears that RIM is coming out with quite irrelevant product refreshes lately while other manufacturers continues to develop more mobile smartphone that focuses more on giving users an enhanced mobile experience through the incorporation of an impressive line-up of specs , features and innovative design.
If Blackberry is really serious to keep pace with the Android and iPhone, it should stop coming out with these unnecessary product upgrades and instead focus its attention in developing a phone that will meet the increasing demand of most mobile users. However, if this phone is really coming out with a mobile 3G hotspot functionality, then most probably it is taking the right direction because this feature is believed to be one of the Android Froyo’s killer features.
The BlackBerry Storm 3 is expected to be released by Verizon by the end of 2010. Although at this time, no information as far as its price and release date are concern has been announced yet. So watch out for more information about this upcoming phone from RIM.
