It’s obvious the Blackberry Torch (9800) QWERTY slider-phone of RIM last year didn’t met the standards of its users. Sure, it has a pretty new look, touchscreen interface, the first phone to receive BB 6.0 OS, but aside from that, its still not a “superphone” unlike what RIM has said on its launch. Then again, that doesn’t mean the giant company will stop from there!
Last January, an interesting report arrive that RIM will be introducing four new Blackberry smartphones and included to that is the Blackberry Torch 2. As of today, boygenius managed to take an early hands-on impression for this device, sans the video.

So the initial verdict? It has the same feel like the old torch w/ 640 x 480 screen resolution, but its specifications have been tweaked, upgrading its processor to 1.2GHz, will be launched along with BB OS 6.1 (hopefully, we have BB OS 7 at that time). Expected announcement will be this May at the Blackberry World Conference and its shipping release date will be on July.
If you’ll ask us, I believe this is the current high-end phone that RIM can only give on the first half of this year, but we have a feeling those QNX dual-core RIM devices are still out there somewhere on the company’s arsenal!
