To all Diablo 3 fanatics, this is both bad and sad news. We heard from several reliable sources that Blizzard will not be releasing the third sequel of its Diablo saga on 2010 (contrary to reports and Diablo 3 rumors). Techland reported that Rob Pardo, Blizzard’s Executive VP expalined why the game took longer than it was expected (Diablo 3 was initially announced on June 2008).
We always announce all of our games too early,” Pardo said, referring to when Diablo III was unveiled at Blizzard’s Worldwide Invitational in 2008. “We realize that and go, ‘You know what? Next time we’re not going to do that.’ And then we always fail at that. But I’d rather fail at that than fail at making the game great. I think it’s safe to say that, yeah, (Diablo III) is not going to be out next year.
Yeah, it was “way” too early and people on several Diablo 3 forums were highly expecting this game to be released before Starcraft 2. Apparently, Blizzard is planning to release SC2 and the expansion to its World of Warcraft franchise: Cataclysm ahead of Diablo 3. Probably by mid of 2010.
The reason behind Blizzard’s failure to deliver Diablo 3 wasn’t very clear either. Pardo stressed that each game is developed iteratively and have different processes and approach compared with other studios. They probably have enough man power (around 50 persons) to work on the design and programming. We really can’t understand the bottom line why Diablo 3 was halted for several times. Although, Pardo explained that fans know that Blizzard always “fail to deliver” on dates they announced. We don’t like to jump into conclusion that Blizzard is a total slacker when it comes to delivering promises on time but this is totally not a good business attitude. On the other hand, the delay could be another sales tactic to increase anticipation and excitement among Diablo 3 gamers.

Blizzard has announced Diablo 3 way back in mid of 2008 during a Blizzard conference at France. Since then, there were several cinematic releases, artworks and clubs that were developed. Gamers worldwide were even speculating that the new DX11 support from new GPU cards will be used for Diablo 3. Unfortunately, that isn’t happening any sooner.
For now, gamers will be contented on playing and re-playing cinematic videos from blizzard and visiting their fan site. Ngooorrkk!
