We know that old point-and-shoot digital camera units are not suitable for low light condition. You may jump to an entry-level DSLR but if you’re tight on budget you can check Canon’s latest PowerShot SX230 HS. Curious? Check its details below.

Canon has introduced one of its latest compact digital cameras that is perfect for photo hobbyists and travelers. The Canon PowerShot SX230 HS uses different image technology to produce excellent, blur-free still images under low light condition. HS stands for “high sensitivity” and was achieved by combining new camera technologies.
The CMOS sensor for the new SX230 HS positions the light-receiving element for optimal light reception. More light going into the sensor means higher quality and detail on every shot. Also, Canon’s DIGIC 4 Image Processor helps in reducing noise and delivers high speed image processing. With these 2 technologies, Canon’s new series of compact cameras provide better image quality than other brands.
Here’s the list of features for the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS:
- 3.0 inch TFT LCD display
- 12.1 MP HS CMOS sensor with DIGIC 4 Image Processor
- 1080p HD Video recording
- First to have a built-in GPS tracker
- 14 x optical Zoom
- Smart AUTO – selects proper setting for the camera automatically
- Movie Digest Mode
- Toy Camera and Monochrome Effect
With the new built-in GPS for SX230 HS, you can now tag your photos and upload them directly to Flickr or Google maps. Consumers will also have the chance to choose from 5 different colors for this compact digital camera. It will be available by the end of March for a retail price of $349.99.
