After showing their love to videogame fans through releasing Iron Man 1 and 2, Thor and Incredible Hulk, SEGA just announced that they are producing their latest addition to Marvel game collection. And this time, it stars the equally loved, shielded Captain America.
The game, just like in the comics and cartoons, features military man Steve Rogers. Now video gamers could be their own Captain America, in the comforts of their own home. SEGA’s latest Marvel game, Captain America: Super Soldier may be the company’s redeeming factor as the Iron Man series did not gave much and did not meet the high expectations of fans.
This game took inspiration from Batman: Arkham Asylum, so a lot could be expected from Super Soldier. Our Super Soldier, as he is known to be, is skillful in offsetting enemies, such as disarming and disorienting them (as a true soldier would). Through some skillful dodging, the player will be able to combine moves together that will be of big help in winning over enemies. Not to mention, the shield will not be used just for defense, but it can also be thrown around to use as a weapon for offensive attacks.
There is also a feature called “Detective Mode” in which a Tactical Vision may be used. The scene will be seen through a blue filter which intends to highlight necessary objects that could be collected and used. Captain America’s natural acrobatic ability will also be reflected in the game. He’ll be able to swing and jump from one pole to another. Such acrobatics will not be there just to show off—sure, it will be of great offensive and defensive use, too.
The game is being written by Christos Gage, the same guy who is responsible for Avengers: The Initiative Marvel comic series. Though the game’s announcement coincides with that of the Captain America movie, SEGA wants to make it clear that the game will be standing on its own, but features the same setting (World War II) and main enemies—Hydra, Arnim Zola, Iron Cross and Red Skull.
Tentative release of the game is summer 2011 and will be available for Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 3, Play Station Portable and Nintendo DS.
