First of the two most notable Asus gadgets is the Zenbook UX32VD, a 13.3-inch ultrabook that takes it origins from the UX31 model that was released last year. However, it’s a completely different model from the other line and is far more powerful with the ability to carry one of Intel’s upcoming Ivy Bridge family of processors, namely the i3-3217U, i5-317U and the i7-3517U, but it also has the option for a second-gen chip as well. It also has a hybrid disk drive with 500GB for the HDD and 24GB for the SSD side, with an option for a pure solid state drive which has 256GB. Of course, getting the hybrid drive is more ideal, as it has the space only an HDD can give with the quick booting time and performance that the SSD is known for.

Aside from the drive and CPU, the UX32Vd has jaws dropping and people ready fish their wallets out of their pockets because of the graphics capabilities it brings. There used to be only one ultrabook with a discrete graphics chip on the market, but with the UX32Vd’s 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT620M GPU, people now have another option if they want some power in their ultrabooks, especially something that makes good use of the HD 1920 x 1080px screen.

The other Asus offering is the Zenbook UX32A, which is pretty similar in many ways to its higher-end brother, but instead of NVIDIA-powered graphics, it only has Intel’s integrated GMA HD 4000. Still, it’s just as notable and comes at a far cheaper price starting at $800, while the UX32Vd will cost about $1,000, both of which are impressively low for ultrabooks. Of course, both laptops can still be customized, and the prices will change depending on certain choices.

The exact date of release for both laptops is still unknown, but since Intel wont be releasing the Ivy Bridge series for a while, Asus will be shipping them with Sandy Bridge processors for now.

Other specifications of the unit include: the 14-inch screen (which is said to have a 1366 x 768 display), 8 GB of RAM, up to 256 GB of SSD, a removable battery, a spill resistant keyboard and an aluminium design finish. Since the model is a bit thick at 20.9mm, you can expect that it will be a bit on the heavy side at 1.74 kg, though it will basically change depending on your battery.

As of the moment, despite the hype of the launch of the model, the company has not yet announced any official release date nor any price range. For those who are enticed to get this model, you may have to wait for a while. If the actual unit is as good as what is written on the launch, then it might be well worth the wait.

Since the target market are the SMBs and professionals, the company equipped the TravelMate with the the Office Manager for SMBs to remotely monitor their technological resources as well as maintenance. It also has the Proshield Acer Security Suite for advanced security solutions. With the Acer Proshield, a user can have virtual encrypted disks to save sensitive information. To prevent file recoveries, the unit also has the File Shredder to permanently delete important data.

Other features include the 750 GB or more of HHD, a 14 inch (1366 X 768 pixels) LED display, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 + HS, Gigabit Ethernet, a High Definition Webcam and 3.0 USB ports.

The updated Acer TravelMate P243 is sold at 339 euros (or $536) apiece but if you are willing to spend more cash you can get up to 8GB of RAM and/or the NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M graphics for the best picture quality.

There are still no news as to when the model will be released to the market ( surely, it will be released in the UK first) but the knowledge of what this unit can give us may well give us the patience to wait.

Lenovo is marketing their ultrabook to consumers looking for these three (3) features – lightweight, durable and performs well – whenever shopping or choosing the right laptop for them. The features alone may be the devices’ strong selling points.

Looking at its material, the X1 Carbon has a carbon-fiber exterior and Lenovo wastes no time in branding it to be the world’s lightest ultrabook. Weight is not an issue as it registers at just three (3) pounds and it is 0.7-inches deep when looking at its thickest point. Since it is made from carbon fiber material (said to its secret ingredient), durability comes into mind as the ultrabook is able to withstand scratches as well as those minor or petty device accidents that happen during travel, leisure or work.

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon also sports a 14-inch screen that offers 1600×900 display resolution. According to Lenovo, the device projects a bright picture even when its screen is at wide viewing angles. As for its processor who is in charge of running the show, it has Intel’s Ivy Bridge chips embedded on it. Keyboard is backlit and spill-resistant (this comes in very handy).

One can also find 3G connectivity on it. There is also the optional rapid charge wherein its juice reaches 80% charge even when just plugged for half an hour or about 30 minutes. Lenovo though has been quiet as to how long battery life would be. One distinct feature of the X1 Carbon is that its LCD monitor can open almost 180 degrees which is not very common for your average laptop. It also comes with vPro enterprise-manageability tech.

Per Lenovo, consumers can expect the X1 to be available by summer (it will actually go on sale at this time). With respect to price, no details were provided yet.

Aside from being 15-inches, the new Macbook Pro will deviate away from its conventional design. The most radical change on it is its ultra-thin profile. This skinny feature is the reason why there will be no optical drive (much like the MacBook Air.) It also features the Retina Display which has been branded as the most ingenious innovation. With it, users would be able to choose from several Retinal resolution modes.

Other notable design changes includes the power button being located on the keyboard (this replaces the eject button) and there will be probably the absence of an Ethernet port to give way to an extra Thunderbolt port. The 2012 MacBook Pro would also have USB 3.0 support and would probably sport Intel’s latest 22-nanometer Ivy Bridge processors. Moreover, it will have flash memory to aid in speeding up boot times as well as extend battery life.

Details on availability and how much it would cost consumers may be divulged during the WWDC event by the company.

The Zenbook UX32VD is a 13.3-inch ultrabook that comes with discrete graphics. Apparently, Asus may be offering an UX32VD unit that comes with a 1080p IPS panel. This clearly implies that the ultrabook may serve in handy when gaming at native resolution is the topic. There is also a robust hard disk drive (HDD) with a capacity of 500GB and there is the 24GB of flash cache. Of course having HDD is a bit of a sacrifice as the ultrabook will be a little bit thicker.

Singapore will get a taste of the Zenbook UX32VD in the coming weeks. As for its international availability, there are no details at the moment. Pricing is said to be in the range of $800 – $1,100.

The Series 5 550P will come in two (2) variants – 15-inch and 17-inch. The 15-inch notebook boasts a display that is capable of 1366×768 pixel resolution. On the other hand, the 17-inch variant will have a 1600×900 display resolution. Since Samsung embedded Intel’s Ivy Bridge chips on their ultrabooks and gaming laptop, the Series 5 550P also gets the same treatment having the quad core Ivy Bridge Core i7 chips (responsible for making the notebook consume 20 percent less power). The processors are partnered with 8GB of RAM with the graphics ably provided by the 2GB GeForce GT 650M. These notebooks will also have a robust 2TB of storage and there are Blu-ray optical drives. As for audio, they also get superb and crisp sound courtesy of JBL speakers which have the Max Bass Boot subwoofer.

The notebooks will be coming to UK (Samsung will be penetrating the market) this month and there will be lower specification models (DVD instead of Blu-ray and utilizing shared graphics) for budget conscious consumers. As for price, no details are available at the moment.

Being just 11.6-inches and weighing about 2.6 pounds, the Aspire One 725 has the LCD Acer CineCrystal LED backlit display that can give 1366×768 pixel resolution. Its operating system (OS) is Windows 7 Starter or Home Premium 64-bit. As for its chipset that is in-charge of orchestrating the multitude of processes and functions, it has the dual-core C-60 AMD processor that is paired up with 4GB of DDR3 RAM. Graphics is provided by the Radeon HD 6290. Would be users can choose either to go with 320 or 500GB of hard drives. This little sleek laptop has a four (4) cell battery that comes with it and has a multi-in-1 card reader that supports SD, MMC, MS, MS PRO and xD. It also has the Acer Crystal Eye webcam.

The Aspire One 725 will come in two (2) colors – volcanic black and carribean blue. It will be made available in Europe by July for a price of €359. It is not clear as to when it will arrive in the land of Uncle Sam so we’ll have to wait for that.
