Huawei has a different approach with respect to marketing as their new entry smartphone is designed especially for the youth and the first time smartphone users (at this age, I bet toddlers are even familiar with smartphones!). Since it is really for starters, it packs a 3.5-inch HVGA display that is capacitive. As for its operating system (OS), it has Android 2.3 or Gingerbread embedded on it.

Running the show under its glossy plastic build body (some are saying that this is responsible for the smudges of fingerprints one will have when using the phone) is a 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM7625A single core processor. Memory can be further expanded thanks to MicroSD which can fit a card up to 32GB. There’s also a handy 3.2-megapixel fixed-focus camera present. In terms of battery, it has the 1,400mAh on it.

As they say, the Ascend Y200 is much more like most Huawei Gingerbread phones available. It probably will be a good starter handset for the youth as it retails for just €100 in the European market. In the US, this may be sold as a prepaid handset considering that specifications aren’t really an attraction for consumers who want much more for a smartphone.

The phone has been integrated with a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255T chip and sports a 4-inch WVGA display. It will also comes with a RAM of 1GB along with a 4GB internal storage and a 5MP rear camera capable of 720p video recording. A 0.3MP camera facing the front has been integrated as well as a microSD card slot and a 5-second fast boot option. DLNA connectivity, smooth keyboard feedback, and spring-loaded sliding mechanism can be expected, too.

Although the phone was rumored to run on Ice Cream Sandwich, the unit used for demonstration still operated on Gingerbread. Due to these minimalist features and specs, we can expect a budget-level device from T-Mobile operating on Android. There have been no official statements on the Huawei Ascend G312’s pricing and availability, although speculations that it will be made available on May have been going around. Best to stick around and see if you’re seeking out sensibly priced devices.

We can’t deny the fact that Huawei is closely making a name for itself as a recognized brand. Apart from this, it is considered to be a go-to manufacturer of carriers who want to release budget-friendly and house-branded devices. The company has even established close ties with two (2) known large carriers – T-Mobile and AT&T.

As a first timer, Huawei will have its hands full working on the popular Android series of phones coming from T-Mobile. At the moment though, the known smartphones on the works or in the pipeline are the U8680 and U8730. Both phones are said to come with a WVGA display plus they are both run by Gingerbread. There is a difference however and it can be noticed on the keyboard where one of the units will be having a QWERTY type keyboard.

It is expected that Huawei will dip into the line by late spring which is most probably by end of May. As for price, of course it is relatively a given fact that it would be affordable (this makes it a selling point for the device).

The Ascend G 300 is a compact Android handset with a 4-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen on a 122.5 x 63 x 10.5mm body weighing 140g. Other specs include a purportedly powerful 3D graphics processor, 1GHz CPU, a 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and video recording capability, and the usual Bluetooth, WiFi and USB support. Operating system comes in the form of Gingerbread 2.3 Android and like other companies who have recently released smartphones in the MWC, it comes with the promise of an ICS upgrade.

While the G 300 cannot compare with its higher specced cousins from the D and P series, online sources claim that Huawei has purposely made it that way to accommodate consumers who are looking for a fairly decent specced smartphone that won’t hurt their budget.

With that, online sites speculate that the G 300 will cost lower than its cousins although Huawei has yet to release an official price tag. Huawei has also reportedly partnered up with Vodafone for the April 2012 European release of the Ascend G 300.

So what can we expect with the Huawei Honor? The Huawei Honor is definitely not a high-end device as compared with some of its competitors, but it is one of the best devices that Huawei has offered to date. Let us check out its specs and features.

Hardware

The Huawei Honor sports a 4-inch TFT display that comes with FWVGA (854 x 480) resolution. It basically uses a thinner and longer screen that makes it easy to grasp. Its battery cover is quite slippery because it is made up of plastic. This device weighs around 4.94 oz.

Performance and Other Features

This new device is powered by single-core 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255T S2 Snapdragon and Adreno 205 GPU. In addition to this, it is also equipped with an 8-megapixel rear cam with LED flash and 2-megapixel front-facing shooter for video chat. It runs with an Android 2.3.6 OS that makes it customizable without compromising the phone’s performance.

Pros

Even if the Huawei Honor is considered as a midrange device only, its strongest points are its good battery life, above average display and its HDR camera that has the ability to capture a large amount of light.

Cons

Its weak points include its video capturing capabilities, which need some improvements and its incompatibility with other UMTS/HSPA networks.

The top-spec Ascend P1 S smartphone sports a thickness of just 6.68mm or 0.26-inches beating Droid RAZR’s 7.1mm by a hairline. Under the hood is a dual-core TI OMAP 4460 Cortext-A9 processor which is clocked at 1.5Ghz and a SGX 540 GPU. It has a 4.3-inch qHD 540 x 960 Super AMOLED touchscreen with scratch resistant Gorilla Glass and an 8MP camera which is backside-illuminated capable of recording 1080p video. On top of it all, it runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. The Ascend P1 has the same specs but measures a little thicker at 7.69mm.

Huawei Ascend P1/P1 S is powered by a 1670mAh/1800mAh battery and featured the latest technology intended for high quality devices with its fast video replay, multi-tasking and gaming experience. Both have a stylish three-dimensional and strong metallic design, elegant contours and super-sleek and narrow body in a choice of cherry-blossom pink, ceramic white or metallic black colors. Connectivity comes in WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth and social media functionalities for social media video and photo sharing.

There’s no word about the price but availability is expected in the month of April, 2012 in Europe, Middle East, Asia-Pacific, China, Australia and North America.

Guangdong, China-based Huawei proceeded with cooking up the update after ICS was unleashed in the wild tinkering with the UI overlays and doing carrier tests. The 4-inch handset’s Android 4.0 uses simplified Chinese and features the standard Android suite of languages or multiple language support peculiar to an Android smartphone. A guide for a rollback to Gingerbread is provided in case unforeseen event occurs. Cricket Wireless will carry the Huawei Honor handset on its network in the U.S. carrying another name Huawei Glory.

The update’s size is 149Mb and it’s only half of the Gingerbread update. Huawei is the first handset manufacturer to roll-out the ICS update to an existing device while Samsung retains the crown of being the first to launch an ICS smartphone. The company is featuring a “demo build” of the update on its support site online. The company has released Kernel 2.6.35 and Kernel 3.0.8, the new ROM builds as part of the update. The latter is higher than the one used by Samsung Galaxy Nexus which only uses Kernel 3.0.1. For the moment, the update announcement has been removed from the company’s site for unknown reason.

Under the hood of the Google-enabled gadget is a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor, an SD slot for 32Gb of expandable memory and with 4G and HSPA+ wireless network functionality. While sporting the look of a MediaPad in full dress, SpringBoard is replete with specs that are unique such as the 7-inch capacitive touchscreen, two cameras – a 1.3Mp on front and a 5Mp 720p on the rear. Both products are expected to deliver premium multimedia and entertainment experiences for users always on the go.

The Huawei SpringBoard is also preloaded with applications like access to Netflix, T-Mobile TV, Blockbuster and services such as MobileLife, TeleNav GPS Navigation, Family Organizer and Slacker Radio, among others. It is ultra-portable and fits well in a coat pocket or briefcase ideal for situations involving errands or waiting time. The GPS navigation feature allows local search, voice and on-screen directions while driving. The dual cameras are particularly useful in capturing images and HD video for offline and online sharing while the built-in SD card slot takes care of their storage.

Online review sites point to November 9 as the release date but price detail is nil. Both devices will be utilizing T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network at a max 42Mbps speed.

The slate runs on Android 3.2 and has an IPS WVGA 1280 x 800 screen and a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor. Other specs include support for Flash 10.3, an expandable 16Gb of internal memory and the all-important 4G functionality. It sports a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and HD video capture and a1.3-megpixel front-facing camera. Pricing has been set at $199.99 (although unofficial) which is competitive with Amazon Kindle Fire and requires a data contract good for two years. The product’s formal introduction has been set for next month’s CTIA event.

Huawei 4G Mediapad has been destined for T-Mobile under the contract scheme and might become the stablemate of the soon-to-be-released Galaxy Tab 10.1. The tablet got its first online attention last June as was believed to be outed in August. It remains to be seen if T-Mobile will adjust the price to challenge Amazon’s plan of turning in a low cost tablet soon. Internal power is provided by a 4100mAh battery.

But that’s not all.  The new Huawei Honor smartphone will also be able to connect to the web via 2G and 3G Networks. It will be powered by a 1900 mAh battery and will be offered in a variety of classic colors.

As for those who are interested in getting one, the ‘Classic Black’ model of Huawei Honor will be released in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Russia and China this Q4. The rest of the phone’s colored models will most likely be launched on or before the Holiday season. No word on price or U.S. launch.
