It’s that time of the year again when the Consumer Electronics Association hits the road for their annual trade show. This highly anticipated technology-themed trade show is once again pumped up with brand new products to preview and look out for during the months to come. It’s going to be held from January 7 – 10, 2010 at Las Vegas, Nevada.
This year’s CES promises to be better with the global financial crisis laying low currently. Doubts and speculations aside, most companies seem set on being able to make up for their losses with an optimistic vibe.
Here’s an enticing clip:
The CES features a record new high of participating companies: more than 300 companies, alongside 2,500 exhibitors will be there to showcase their goods to the public for the very first time. An estimated 20,000 new products will be up for display. The trade show is definitely holding up to its reputation as the biggest consumer technology trade show to date. From brand new point and shoot digi-cams to smart phones and even gaming gadgetry, it’s every geek’s dream come true to have the privilege of being able to attend the CES this coming Thursday.
So what’s going to be big this upcoming CES?
The tech-gurus have predicted that it’s all going to be about better media experiences and communication. Since the dawn of the coloured TVs, there has been tight competition for better colours and graphics as well as sound towards a more fruitful viewing experience. This CES is going to be introducing 3D viewing, which just might foreshadow a brand new mass marketed idea in the works.
Connectivity is one of the prevailing themes of the products that will be showcased. The element of being able to keep in touch with others is pretty apparent in the sneak peeks of products of smart phones and tablet PCs. E-Readers are also going to be pretty hot. So far most are predicted that to be simply variants of the E-paper with a wireless connection. The hope for wifi-based connection still seems far off with most still holding up with the Kindle-like 3g connections. Not to mention, the Nexus One and iSlate/ Apple’s new tablet will be showcased there too.
The Consumer Electronics Show finds its roots in the June of 1967 and was held in New York. Much gadgetry we continue to use today or have probably used at some point in our lives were first unveiled then such as the: video cassette recorder, the compact disc player and the DVD.
Watch this summarization:
It used to be held twice in a year until the organizers decided to stick to having just one show, with different locations at each time. Eventually in 1998, they chose to host their shows at Las Vegas since. It has come a long way from the late sixties, showing a huge jump in attendance and participating companies.
At least on this CES, you can expect that what happens on Vegas, will not only stay in Vegas – And that’s great!
