Well, developers out there must be happy to know about this Chrome OS Beta channel update knowing that the Chrome 12 is coming with some important enhancements that include the following:

  • comes with an improved GSM support
  • boast a shiny new look
  • comes with some Verizon activation improvements
  • new flash player
  • comes with a 3G connection to the carrier fixes
  • comes with a new trackpad and adjusted sensitivity settings
  • comes with an auto-update engine and debugging improvements
  • its feedback link is now under the wrench menu
  • comes with improved on-screen indicators

In addition to these features, the updated Chrome OS Beta channel also comes with some security fixes as well that disallow root escalation by creating /var/lib/chromeos-aliases.conf and inserting commands, disallow modification of aboutflags in its Guest mode and also contains multiple package updates as well.

Google also unveiled the first Chromebooks, the first shipping products that run the Chrome OS, but Google noted that the first order will officially start on June 15. Apparently, Google has decided to come up with this date in order to have more time to do those little works that needs to be done. But only one thing is obvious and that is the fact that this Google Chrome OS update is getting closer each day.

Apparently, this version that has been in the dev channel for a couple of weeks will be further tested in beta for a couple of weeks before it finally becomes stable. This could happen before June 15 of course.

One of the very first Chromebooks that make use of the Chrome OS version 12 will be the Samsung series 5. And once it officially enters the market as a full Chrome OS version, then a lot of devices will surely follow.

So what do you think of the Chrome 12? If you would like to know more, then watch out for more updates.
