In a recent conference held in Las Vegas Cisco’s CEO John Chamber formally announced its first Android-based collaboration business tablet called Cisco Cius. Just like most of the devices made by Cisco, the Cisco Cius is also designed to fit the needs and active lifestyle of business people and young professionals.
The Cisco Cius was formed with the concept of combining voice and data communication on the network over a common Internet Protocol architecture. The Cisco Cius is a virtual desktop and telecommunication machine in one great unit. It comes with two cameras, a front-facing 720p HD camera and a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera which will be great for teleconferencing and will surely be an attraction for business enterprises.
It comes with a 7-inch WVGA screen display and weighs only around 1.15 pounds, making it easy to carry anytime, anywhere. This portable tablet runs in the modified version of Google’s Android operating system and comes with a 3G capability.
It will run with Cisco’s set of software which will include Cisco Quad, Show and Share, WebEx, and Presence and Cisco Tele-Presence. The device also supports Unified Communications Manager.
As officially announced the specs of the upcoming Cisco Cius include the following:
- 802.11a b/g/n Wi-Fi, 3G/4G data and Bluetooth 3.0 help employees to stay connected even they are out of the office
- HD video (720p) with Cisco TelePresence solution interoperability for lifelike video communication with the simplicity of a phone call
- Virtual desktop client which enables highly secure access to cloud-based business applications
- Android OS with access to Android marketplace applications
- 7” diagonal ,high resolution color screen with contact based target
- HD soundstation that supports Bluetooth and USB peripherals , 10/100/1000 wired connectivity and a handset option
- Comes with a detachable and chargeable battery that can lasts up to 8 hrs
- Ensures a highly secured remote connection with Cisco AnyConnect Security VPN client
- HD audio with wideband support
Basically the Cisco Cius is a mobile videoconferencing device that can be expanded to other functionality via its Android operating system. It has also the ability to dock to a station with a phone to give you all your oral communication needs without the need from going from one place to another. With these great features laid down by Cisco, it appears that Cisco Cius is such an amazing product to look forward to.
There will be customer trials beginning the third quarter of the year and Cisco Cius is estimated to be released in the early 2011 the same time in which Apple will launch its next version of iPad. Watch out for this simply amazing product.
