FedEx Corp announced one of the coolest gadgets we’ve seen on package delivery services – SenseAware. FedEx claims that the gadget is the first of its kind in the market. It combines a GPS sensor device and web-based platform to give customer and business owners near real-time information about the status of their packages.
SenseAware is permitted by the Federal Aviation administration to be used during flights on aircraft. The gadget made it possible for customers to easily monitor in-transit conditions during ground transportation.
Some information FedEx’s SenseAware gadget is capable of
- Precise temperature readings
- A shipment’s exact location
- When a shipment is opened or if the contents have been exposed to light
- Real-time alerts and analytics between trusted parties regarding the above vital signs of a shipment
Customers can use their Senseaware module and login to the web-based platform to check the exact location of their packages in near real time. SenseAware will probably be available by Spring of 2010 for $120 USD and will focus on health care and life sciences.
