Have you heard about the DARPA Falcon HTV-2? Well, just recently the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California has been the subject of attention as it launches into space the DARPA Falcon HTV-2, an experimental unmanned aircraft that can fly at 20 times the speed of sound. This is actually a part of the research being conducted DARPA that has the objective of making the long duration hypersonic flight a reality. This project is being developed by the Pentagon and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency or DARPA.

The Falcon HTV-2 will be launched on a rocket into space and glide back down to the earth at a speed of 13,000 mph. Previous records have shown that its previous test flight lasted for only around 9 minutes before being deliberately destroyed. Apparently, this mission failed because of some technical difficulties and up to know the real reason behind it is still unknown. Should this mission succeed this time, this will definitely set the records in sub-orbital space travel and also give way to the next generation of super weapons.

The engineers behind the DARPA Falcon HTV-2 have come out with some pretty interesting tweaks to ensure the success of this mission. If the test becomes successful, it will surely help in inter-galactic defense projects that the Pentagon tries to explore in order to combat terrorism and enemy states. The US military hopes that with the number of adjustments made, the mission will now become successful.
In addition to this, DARPA is planning to take second by second readings that could help them in advancing their project further. Apparently, this is needed and will be a great help in order to advance this project further. This mission is also Falcon’s first flight and according to Dave Neyland, the company is looking forward to conquering more unknowns about long-duration hypersonic missions.

The Falcon HTV-2 is apparently the fastest plane that was ever launched in the sky. It is already in the research and development stage and on the second test run already. So let us just wait for more updates on the status of this mission.
