Attorney Dean Boland, an expert witness in child pornography cases could be in trouble for photoshopping courtroom images of children having sex.

The Ohio-based lawyer thought that he was just doing the right thing. That is revealing the fact that pornography laws in the US are “unconstitutionally overbroad” because simple photos can now be altered using various image software like Adobe Photoshop.
Boland had purchased pictures of juvenile girls from a website and changed them to make it appear that the children were engaged in sexual activity. For example, he made it appear that a 5-year old girl eating a donut was having oral sex. On another scenario, he cropped the face of a 6-year old girl and pasted it on an adult woman’s body while having sex with 2 men.
These acts may have helped someone get acquitted from pornography-related charges. But on the other hand, the photoshop-lawyer could pay as much as 300,000 dollars plus legal costs to these girls’ family.
In 2007, the girls’ parents filed a lawsuit against Boland for maliciously morphing their children’s images and use it as evidence. According to the girls’ legal counsel, the parents learned about the images from the FBI after it was distributed on a disc to a number of defense lawyers and different clerks of courts.
In Boland’s defense, he said that the girls had no idea of the explicit images. And thus, no personal injury and any sort of psychological harm were done. On the other side, the girls’ attorney clearly stated that the faces’ of these children were “abused and misappropriated in the most disgusting manner” and thus, it’s only justified that Boland should pay the price.
