Dell Inspiron M101z got a 7 out of 10 score in the engadget laptop review. Let us see why. This laptop offers fast performance and high quality graphics, a handful of options at a nice price. Powered by AMD’s new dual-core Athlon Neo II processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 320GB 7,200 rpm hard drive, this laptop surely gives an impressive performance. Maybe this laptop is the best budget thin and light laptop you can see in the market today.

Let’s go to the design. The Dell Inspiron M101z is available in four different colors; clear black, tomato red, peacock blue and pink. This laptop is thicker than other laptops, because Dell included the battery to the design making the rear portion 1.5 inch thicker. The exterior covering is made of plastic. Around the gadget are three USB ports, SD card reader, HDMI, Ethernet, VGA, microphone and headphone jacks. The palm-rest, touchpad, and area around the keyboard have an attractive smudge-resistant brushed metal look. It has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display that shows a glossy finish.
Dell used AMD parts for this laptop boosting its performance. Browsing the net with multiple tabs open while playing a media player and typing in Microsoft Word is not a problem with this laptop, it can even handle a good quality video playback. The battery life is fairly enough for a thin and light laptop carrying a 6 cell, 56W-Hr battery. This laptop can last for three and a half hour with non-stop video stream. For normal usage it can run up to 5 straight hours. But obviously, if you would test its battery life, it may vary depending on how you will use it and applications running. The company also plans to offer an optional 9 cell, 93Whr battery which can run for up to 10 hrs.
I think this laptop is fairly rated by its reviewer. It provides a nice blend of fast performance and high quality graphics with good quality chassis/built. Based on its specifications and its price, I can say that this laptop is on top of the shopper’s list. It is currently available at $579 and at a budget price $449 (with lower specs of course). If you’re looking for a thin and light laptop with adequate performance and features then Dell Inspiron might be the perfect choice.
