Do you still remember Facebook Disconnect? Well, the Facebook Disconnect is apparently a browser extension that allowed its users to remove the Facebook Connect functionality in various websites and was created by Brian Kennish who left his job at Google after hitting the top 10 Google Chrome extensions and garnering around 50k active users in just two weeks.

After he has left Google, he decided to focus his attention in building Disconnect, a browser extension for Chrome and Rockmelt that has the ability to disable various third party data tracking while browsing. Just like Facebook Disconnect, this browser extension also prevents third parties such as Digg, Google, Twitter, and Yahoo from gathering important information or cookies about the pages that you often go to as well as the searches that you make.
Brian Kennish strongly believes that more people are getting more paranoid with the usage of the internet in gathering information because of the existence of various security threats around that is why he wanted to help internet users by sharing and developing tools that will help lots of internet users in controlling these important data.

As compared with other conventional ad blockers, the Disconnect is much easier to use. In addition to this, Disconnect also comes with the following features:
- disables tracking by third parties without requiring any set-up
- depersonalize searches on search engines like Google and Yahoo
- shows the number of blocked requests in real time
- allows easy unblocking by simply clicking the toolbar button
So if you are the type of user who unintentionally sends your browsing and search history together with your name and other important information to unauthorized parties whenever you are online, then Disconnect might be the one that you need in order to protect your personal information before it falls with the wrong hands.
Disconnect is basically an open-source software and its code is available at the j.mp/dsource. Brian Kennish is also presently working with a Disconnect version for the Firefox and Safari browsers as well. For the meantime, try to enjoy the Disconnect version for the Chrome and Rockmelt and see how it can change your browsing experience.
