Not all Android phones are high-priced, just like the HTC Droid Eris that debuted last November 6, 2009 in Verizon stores. At $100, Droid Eris can be availed on a two-year contract. This middle of the road Android handset is geared with HTC’s very own efficient Sense user interface which considerably increases the phone’s aesthetic value.
Droid Eris is lightweight and can be placed in your pocket, has a slim design integrated with numerous applications and performs rather satisfactory with pinch and zoom multitouch features. But every gadget, whether low-cost or expensive, has a certain or some drawback. As with the Droid Eris with mixed multimedia value, it only runs on Android 1.5 ( If you are an Android die-hard, 2.0 is the best choice), has an absent file manager and an internal performance that is at times slothful.
Three months after the public got hold of the Droid Eris, Verizon Wireless now provides the software version ROM: 1.17.605.1/ Radio: 2.32.40.11.09 update which addresses the occasional times when the screen display gets locked or when it appears like it is in a no-signal status if the user tries to remove the phone from stand-by mode.
If you are a Droid Eris user, you will receive a notification that this OTA update is already available. Upon choosing the ‘Install Now’ option, the device will automatically turn off then on to begin the installation. There will also be an ‘Install Later’ option, should you choose this, the home screen will appear but the update message will appear every half an hour until you finally choose to install the update.

For roaming-enabled phones, the notification will not be received until the Wi-Fi is switched on. The update notice must forst be received in order to manually update the Droid Eris.
