Motorola’s Droid X started to enter the market last July 15 and according to some news it was already sold out a day after its much awaited release. Droid X is a collaboration of three great names in the industry namely Google, Motorola and Verizon. And with its recent release it seems that a lot of consumers wanted to have a unit of their own.

The Motorola Droid X is eyed to compete with Apple’s iPhone 4. And as of present, it is earning so much popularity which is not so surprising for its manufacturer. Motorola, Verizon and Google have seen this device to stand out even beforehand because of its relatively large screen and high definition video player accompanied by amazing features that makes it a great competitor for the iPhone 4.
The Droid X runs an Android 2.1 OS and expected to have a software upgrade to Android 2.2 by the end of summer. It has amazing features such as Swype’s messaging technology, MotoBLUR, to name a few, and mobile hotspot service which will be available for only $20 a month.
The Motorola Droid X is now available for those Android phone fanatics but those who ordered online needs to wait for their orders which are expected to be shipped out starting July 23. According to Verizon Wireless spokesperson Brenda Raney, plenty of this Droid X smartphones will be distributed among the stores to meet the demands of interested consumers. Each store is expected to have around 50 to 100 units of Droid X and enough stocks will be available at its regional warehouses.
But despite the news of Droid X being sold out, there are also some ongoing rumors that the true reason behind this is a low inventory level of the said smartphone and not much of its popularity. But there is no confirmation on these ongoing rumors. And with Verizon Wireless spokesperson stating that enough stocks will be available, we may assume that this rumor is not true at all.
The Droid X is now available at a very affordable price of $199.99 with a two year contract and after a $100 mail in rebate. Verizon is also offering an upgrade for those Verizon customers whose contract are about to end within this year.
It looks like the popularity of Droid X upon its launch is too much of a surprise. Will the Droid X surpass the popularity of Apple’s iPhone 4? This question is yet to be answered.
