It is now confirmed, the Duke Nukem Forever is finally coming with your Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in early 2011. Gearbox President Randy Pitchford made this announcement at PAX during a livestream presentation at the 2K Games booth.
The Duke Nukem Forever is a sequel to the Duke Nukem 3D, which is a part of the long running Duke Nukem game series. Gearbox actually began finishing this game in 2009. And just recently Gearbox is trying to give it an overhaul and tries to bring it back to the main stage of gaming. Apparently this game will both feature a single-player as well as multi-player mode.

To give you a brief history, the first two installments of this game came out as 2D sidescrolling platformers in the traditional Apogee style while the third installment is a first person shooter game with an over-the-top misogynistic style that becomes a big hit. The Duke Nukem Forever was announced way back in 1997, but since the game developer behind it is believed to be perfectionist, the much-awaited launch has been always delayed. Gearbox gained the rights to finish Duke Nukem Forever and likewise, it has also gained ownership of its franchise name as well.
And this time we can really expect that this is for real since Gearbox has been known for delivering what it has actually promised. So we can expect that the Duke will live again. After almost 13 years of development this game has almost died, but Gearbox seems to perform some sort of a miracle and bring this game back to the gaming world. It may not be the best game ever, but it is real and an actual playable game.
The Duke Nukem Forever story revolves on Duke’s mission to save the world from aliens who came to the world and trying to offer friendship. Duke strongly believes that this idea will not work out so it is up to him to save the world. The trailer showed off Duke kicking alien ass using various weapons like shrink ray, freeze ray and the Devastator.
This demo clearly indicates that the Duke Nukem Forever is nothing but a traditional first-person shooter game that relies heavily on the mystery surrounding the main character. This game also incorporates many updates from the last 12 years and a lot of depth in terms of field effects as well.
It is evident that Gearbox is trying all their effort to bring the Duke Nukem Forever back to where it really belongs. With Gearbox behind this game, surely this game will feature a lot of great technology, amazing features as well as great gameplay mechanics. Gearbox did not give any exact date as to when this game will be actually released, but they gave a hint that it will happen early next year.
