After the widely regarded success of Xiaomi Phone and its collaboration with China Telecom, Chief Executive Officer Lei Jun is thinking deeper in to the Chinese market to make his next move. With much pondering, the CEO suddenly had an idea: why not venture into the tablet market? With no evident mode of surprise, Lei Jun did, and he did it with much flair.

Turning out to be the year of Jun, the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas saw Mobile In Style, Kingsoft’s Japanese arm launching the 7 inch Eden Tab which Xiaomi also co-developed. Both the Eden Tab and the Xiaomi Phone shares the same Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) – Inventec. In a certain twist of fate, or by just a turn of luck, Lei Jun also acts as CEO of Kingsoft. His two chaired companies, Xiaomi and Kingsoft have announced its collaboration sometime before but it is evident that the recently announced Eden Tab wasn’t able to inherit Xiaomi’s MIUI software.

The Eden Tab is currently powered by Android 2.3 or the Gingerbread. The word “currently” is imposed since the Tab is set to be upgraded to the Android 4.0 or the Ice Cream Sandwich sometime later. Aside from it being an Android, the Eden Tab will also don a 1,280 x 800 LCD display, dual microphone, 1.2GHz Samsung S5PC210 chip, 16GB worth eMMC storage and a 1GB LPDDR2 RAM. As an added bonus, the Eden Tab is also expandable via mircoSD, micro USB and HDMI mini.

An eight megapixel camera with flash emblazons the Eden Tab’s back while a standardized two megapixel imager is situated in front of the tablet. It weighs at an approximate 330grams and measures in at 10.4mm. The Eden Tab took a few steps in front of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 which was launched last week, although the Tab 2’s added 150mAh battery perks its advantage at 4,000mAh.

As an update, Mobile In Style recently announced the Wi-Fi version of the Eden Tab and will be out this Saturday at 29,800 Yen or around $370. The company is now accepting pre-orders for the Eden Tab and will come in black, white and pink variations. The Eden Tab was also tested under rigorous situations including a 45 second water immersion test will also come with a 14 day money back guarantee. The 3G version of the Eden Tab will come out sometime in April. Lei Jun isn’t so sure whether China is to carry the Eden Tab under the Xiaomi brand, but the CEO said he’ll see how things in Japan goes down first
