The recent developments in technology have brought a lot of convenience, innovation and improvements to almost all types of industries. This goes the same with transportation devices. In fact, technology is bringing us the Elektra One, which is apparently the most efficient transportation device that has been ever conceived. This electric plane is a single seater electric ultralight plane that has been made from lightweight composites that is powered by a 13.5 kW electric engine and has the ability to fly for around three hours at a cruise speed of 160 kilometers per hour.

Additionally, this plane has also won the Lindbergh Prize for Electric Aircraft Vision award. This award giving body aims to recognize innovation that will enhance the aviation’s culture, economy and future. This award is enough proof that the Elektra One was designed to maximize efficiency and also fuel efficient as well. One good thing about this is that its engine is remarkably quiet. However, this aircraft only accommodates one person and the maximum cargo weight including the pilot is around 220 pounds.

Since this is powered by an electric engine it is also environmental friendly as well. In fact, Elektra One has managed to cut down not only on air pollution, but noise pollution as well. The engineers behind this plane say that this plane produces only one fifth of the noise that is emitted by a regular aircraft and one half of the noise that is being produced by regular ultralight planes. In addition to this, the plane’s hangar roof also features a 20 square meters of photovoltaic cells from Solarworld.
The design of this electric plane comes from PC-Aero founder named Calin Gologan and test pilot Jon Karkow was the one who flew Elektra One during its maiden flight last March 19 in Augsburg, Germany. This complete system is expected to penetrate the market for a prize of $ 145,000 in early 2012 and once all the necessary certification has been completed already. This price is definitely lower than some of the road vehicles being offered in the market today, so how would you love to have this upcoming electric plane? Will you be interested to fly one? Watch out for more updates.
