If you’re an Emma Watson fan, you may want to hold off on typing her name into your favorite search engine for a while. According to Internet security company McAfee, the Harry Potter star was recently named the riskiest celebrity to search for.
Why is this so? Because several sites containing Watson’s name are in fact full of malware. McAfee states that cybercriminals like to follow the latest Hollywood trends, loading their sites with names of popular actors and actresses to lure in unsuspecting victims who are only trying to find pictures and downloads of their favorite stars. Once the link has been clicked, malware will be able to enter the person’s computer and either take control of the systems or steal passwords and other sensitive data.
People are most likely to come across such high-risk websites by combining celebrity names with terms such as “nude pictures” or “free downloads”, so sites offering these should definitely be watched out for. Unfortunately, McAfee hasn’t stated what exact malware is being used, so protecting your computer against a specific threat cant be done at this time.
Emma Watson’s popularity has grown immensely over the years due to her work in the Harry Potter movies and subsequent stint in modeling, so it’s no surprise that her name is being used by cybercriminals to spread their destructive software. Other celebrities on McAfee’s list are Jessica Biel, Eva Mendes, Selena Gomez, Halle Berry, Megan Fox, Shakira, Cameron Diaz, Salma Hayek and Sofia Vergara.
