Facebook Numbers Game in Status: Review and How To Guide

Posted on 11 December 2010 by pinoytutorial

Another hype is taking over Facebook similar to the cartoon character profile pictures last week, and it’s taking the social-networking site by storm. It’s called the Numbers Game and it’s taking over Facebook statuses by having status updates in the form of numbers.

The Numbers Game comes in two versions, and both are very popular among teenagers and young adults.

The first version of the game is where a Facebook user posts a number on his or her status and then the friends of that user will post in their statuses what first comes into their minds when they saw that number. Here, some numbers such as 1,7,62, and 420 were among the popular ones because of its commonality and some associations with things (e.g. 7=lucky 7). This is less personal and interactive as it just involves your thought and what you think of the number instead of the person who posted the numbers.

The second version is more private and personal, plus it involves more interaction than the first one. Here, you send some of your friends in Facebook a random number that you like in a private message. Once they receive the number, they update their status with that number and what they think of you in the first place. In this way, the message is only intended between you and some of your friends

In this version, users are saved from being humiliated in public because people won’t know who the others are talking about. For example, one user says, “9, you are such a funny person but sometimes some of your jokes are old fashioned”. People won’t know who 9 is except FB user 9 and his or her friend.

It is still unknown who started this game, but it was said to have started first in Twitter before it came to Facebook. The game looked innocent and less controversial than the cartoon character profile pictures, and users get a glimpse of unique and funny statuses that make them curios. Also, this is a good game when you are bored in the office or just want to have fun in Facebook without thinking of level ups and items.

For now, it has not reached other countries yet, but it won’t be long. Some say that this craze might be short-lived, but we don’t think so. It’s actually quite fun when you look at it, and you get to see different personalities of Facebook users…and they won’t even be humiliated by it.
