There are rumors that Skype integration into Facebook will become a reality in the coming weeks. With this development, video chat in FB is now possible using Skype’s technology.

The browser-based chat will allow users to open videos and communicate using a mic, a speaker and a webcam. This feature is in addition to the existing Skype’s service of connecting FB users in real-time. Industry analysts said that this may be FB’s answer to Goggle+’s Hangout. A Facebook shareholder, Microsoft has been battling Google for market leadership in search engine environment while Skype has been recently acquired by Microsoft.
Whether a standalone Skype is enough or additional software is needed for the video chat or that group video chat is possible remains to be seen as yet as no official word has been heard of. The expected release of Skype-powered video chat platform on FB threatens the emerging popularity of Hangouts that also features group video chat.
Meanwhile, a crack team created a screenshot of the video chat on FB just to satisfy their curiosity of how it will look like. The rumors have been greeted by more than 650 million FB users with less fanfare presumably due to lack of details.
