Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) US Release Date and Review

The Final Fantasy has a lot to live up to. And the quest continues as the Final Fantasy XIV is scheduled for release on September 30, 2010 for Microsoft Windows and March 8, 2011 for PlayStation 3.

The Final Fantasy XIVis a very popular 3D massively multiplayer online role-playing game that was developed and published by Square Enix. This game was also produced by the same team behind the Final Fantasy XI with Nobuaki Komoto as director, Akihido Yoshida as art director and Nobuo Uematsu composing the music. This game is due for release in Japanese, German, French and English and initially intended for Playstation 3 and all Windows PC.

As of present, the game is still in the beta test stage, wherein the game’s graphics have been enhanced and some classes and quests have been added. The first stage of alpha testing started last March while the second stage testing began last June. Beta testing officially started last July 13 only. And before the end of this month, the Standard Edition PC version will already be released. It will also be released with a Collector’s Edition, which is set a week before the release of its PC version.

The Final Fantasy XIV will come out with a different battle and job system as compared with the Final Fantasy XI. Basically, it was designed to utilize skill-based progression, which is more similar to that of the Final Fantasy II. In this game, players will be able to select character races, gender, appearance, class as well as country. The game comes with five playable races as of the moment, each of which has both male and female versions, except the Roegadyn race in which only males are available.

Under the Final Fantasy XIV, solo and group play has been balanced and weapons use will alter character development. Basically, the different roles are divided into four disciplines:

  • Disciples of War
  • Disciples of Magic
  • Disciples of Land
  • Disciples of the Hand

Basic System requirements for PCs are as follows:

  • Operating System – Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7
  • CPU- Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon X2
  • RAM- Windows XP : 1GB or higher
  • Windows Vista/ Windows 7: 2GB or higher
  • HDD /SDD space- for installation ( 15 GB or more); for download , space on the hard drive where My Documents is located should be around 6 GB or more
  • Graphics Card- NVIDIA GeForce 9400 series or higher with VRAM 512 MB or more /ATI Radeon HD 2900 series or higher with VRAM 512 MB or more

As of now, the player’s site is only open to certain beta testers. However, an early access will become available to all users starting Sept 21. Initially around 17 different worlds will be available during the early access and depending on the server population; new worlds may be added as well.
