Here is a great news for Firefox fans out there. A new version of Firefox is set to unveil before the year 2010 ends. The new version is believed to be the Firefox 4. Its beta 2 version is rumored to be released by July 22.
Mike Beltzner, Mozilla’s product director recently came up with a post describing what the Firefox 4 has to offer. It laid down its amazing features as well as how it will look like. Firefox is the second most popular web browser to date.
The Firefox 4 is believed to look like the Google Chrome. Although, the Firefox 4 has some important changes which are already available in the Firefox night builds. It definitely offers some major upgrades as compared with the previous versions it has before.
One of the enhancements it made which is expected to definitely capture the attention of many is the all-new tabs-on-top interface which will be available for Mac OS users. Earlier the tabs-on-top was offered to Windows OS user via its Beta 1 version. This tab-on-tops interface has been popular among browser vendors and looks like Firefox 4 targets other OS as well.
According to Mozilla’s lead user and experience designer Alex Faborg, the tabs-on-top design has nothing to do with fashion. It mainly aims to make running web applications a better experience for many. But if you’re the type that doesn’t want the tabs-on-top interface then you have the option to revert to its old look through the browser’s View menu.
At first look, you might say that the Firefox 4 and Google Chrome are very similar with each other. But if you will try to look at it on a different perspective you’ll know that its exactly two different things.
Other exciting features that the Firefox 4 has include:
- HTML parser – it is a replacement of the Gecko parser
- Speed improvements
- CSS transitions
- Better handling of retained layers
- Add-ons manager new features that confirms when an add-on has been installed
The Firefox beta 1 is already available and ready for testing while the beta 2 will be released very soon. Accordingly, both of them come with great features and improvements.
Watch out for the release of its final browser which is expected to happen before the year-end most probably within the 4th quarter of the year 2010.
