Mozilla Firefox or simply Firefox is today’s most popular personal computer web browser, particularly the version Firefox 3.5(as per statement made by StatCount). This free an open source web browser is the upgraded browser that came from Mozilla Corporation’s Mozilla Application Suite.

This browser, however, is not only making waves in the computer and  laptop trends. It has also started to make its presence known in the most sophisticated and up-beat models of handheld phones that provides access to the internet.

The mobile-phone compatible Firefox browser is called Fennec. This name came from a small dessert fox know as Fennec Fox(the same way that the Fennec browser is the small version of Mozilla Firefox browser). Fennec was initially released recently for Maemo Beta 5 hand phones such as Nokia N900, N810 and N800.

Nevertheless, users of mobile phones which has Android operating system need not be jealous of Maemo-phone owners because according to the German Mozilla Community Website camp-firefox.de, Android-compatible Fennec is about to be released sometime this February.

Fennec , the small Firefox, is known to be using a Gecko layout engine, whose version is the same as that of the Firefox 3.6. The mobile browser includes among its features the Awesomebar, tabbed browsing, Add-on support, password manager and  location-aware browsing. It can also synchronize with the user’s computer Firefox browser using Mozilla Weave. One hitch, however, is that the plugin support is defaultly disabled, thereby removing compatibility with all the rage web content types like the  Adobe Flash.

The fully redesigned user interface is made as such in order to optimize the small screen of mobile phone. With the intention of showing only the web content, controls are hidden away. The Fennec browser for mobile phones utilizes a touchcreen method of interaction to replace dragging movements when using a mouse. Check the video demo below of the “fox” in motion.
